Developing a Blog and My Foot Prints (Unit 5)

When developing a profile for the average blogger site they all seem to ask for the usual information.  What is your name? What type of user name?  Then some will ask for date of birth, or location, and email address.  These are just some identifiers to verify this isn’t a phony programmer stealing your information.  Then once the profile has been generated, it will them start to develop the page towards your interest by asking questions about music, movies, hobbies and so on.  Usually this is to also help you find people with like minded interest.

When it comes to social media a lot of people can and are being taken advantage of, those that are unfamiliar with formats will just give out any personal information.  This is one of the biggest issues with fraud these days.  Elderly who are not computer savvy are commonly seeing these issues.  Then you have the hackers that just take whatever they want off of someone’s page.  I recommend that you set up every webpage you have with strict privacy settings.  This will save you a lot of headache if anyone ever gets a hold of your personal information.

I prefer not to use Social Media a whole lot.  My personal privacy is very important plus my security in my occupation is very high.  So it is requested that we as employees try to stay away as much as possible.  I don’t mind using Linked in from time to time but that is about it for me.  If I can’t gain access to something with just minimal criteria then I normally don’t bother with it.

For those that are out there with a large foot print.  How many of you have been exposed to some type of computer scam?  I suggest you search yourself and verify on a regular basis.  Doing that may stop a headache before it develops into something very time consuming.
