Developing a Blog and My Foot Prints (Unit 5)

When developing a profile for the average blogger site they all seem to ask for the usual information.  What is your name? What type of user name?  Then some will ask for date of birth, or location, and email address.  These are just some identifiers to verify this isn’t a phony programmer stealing your information.  Then once the profile has been generated, it will them start to develop the page towards your interest by asking questions about music, movies, hobbies and so on.  Usually this is to also help you find people with like minded interest.

When it comes to social media a lot of people can and are being taken advantage of, those that are unfamiliar with formats will just give out any personal information.  This is one of the biggest issues with fraud these days.  Elderly who are not computer savvy are commonly seeing these issues.  Then you have the hackers that just take whatever they want off of someone’s page.  I recommend that you set up every webpage you have with strict privacy settings.  This will save you a lot of headache if anyone ever gets a hold of your personal information.

I prefer not to use Social Media a whole lot.  My personal privacy is very important plus my security in my occupation is very high.  So it is requested that we as employees try to stay away as much as possible.  I don’t mind using Linked in from time to time but that is about it for me.  If I can’t gain access to something with just minimal criteria then I normally don’t bother with it.

For those that are out there with a large foot print.  How many of you have been exposed to some type of computer scam?  I suggest you search yourself and verify on a regular basis.  Doing that may stop a headache before it develops into something very time consuming.

The Kaplan Experience Podcast

Listen to this episode

The Kaplan Experience (Unit 7)

The Kaplan Experience
Social media has become a necessity for so many individuals.  When wireless internet is down for moments every internet provider begins to be overwhelmed with upset customers.  Is this because humans are in dire need to communicate?  Maybe it is that habits have formed with updating social media and being in the know about everything occurring.
Social media in the online college setting is an asset in so many ways.  After a student has made the determination of joining the technological advances of online schooling, they know they will need internet on a weekly basis.   If they have these capabilities education can be developed in a great experience and time saving way.
My time with Kaplan has been an awarding experience, I have been able to work full work weeks, spend time with my family and still be able to attend school almost full time.  It takes a little discipline with being on line and not having to attend the traditional brick and mortar school for classes but it is rewarding to still get an education and not have to transition around a difficult schedule.   After completing the last two classes  I will be able to say I have achieved one big goal, a degree.  It is very uncommon still these days that many people don’t have an education and luckily I have been able to take the path to complete one.
The educational experience with Kaplan has been a pleasant one.  The students become great friends during a ten week semester.  With the advantage of private chat during a class session, working on group projects, and discussing many current events during class you learn so much about everyone.  Having the benefits of a Kaplan Facebook page and a Linkedin profile it helps for the classmates to stay connected.  These social media tools didn’t completely become clear to me until after I attended Team Building and Tools of the Digital Age.  These particular classes helped my online experience and allowed me to build a closer relationship with staff and students.  This has offered me the opportunity to develop a better online experience and broaden my professional networking.
Within this experience I have grown more as an individual, I have learned that education is truly a benefit, and rewarding when we apply our knowledge to the benefits of others development. Thankfully Kaplan is a developing and functional online program giving all of us students the opportunity to be great communicators and business professionals.

Quick and Dirty of Public speaking / Podcast

As I was looking for communication advice I stumbled across this site about Quick and Dirty tips of Public Speaking.  The site was great, author Lisa Marshall gives advice on everything in the communication industry.  One of the podcast that she had on her webpage was about creating Podcast.  This little three cast series covered everything we have learned.  Audience, volume, speech and many other things were covered but one in particular was about staying in contact with a network and building upon the existing.

This was a great site and I suggest all to take into consideration what this wonderful site has to offer.

Podbean a Great Tool

One free podcasting site that I chose was the one that we spoke so much about in class last week. After searching and sifting through a few PodBean was the most user friendly.  The site is designed to advertise current podcast that are being broadcasted.  Though it is also there to educate and disseminate to all the new individuals learning about this craze of sending information.

I like this site because it offers hands on access that was self explanatory to the most fossilized computer operator.  However like any other site technical errors or updates may occur.  When they do happen, give the site a short down period and many times it will be up within a few hours.

This is a great site and I highly recommend you check it out for all your podcast needs.
